EarthTek has become a resource to several private financial companies looking to allocate funding to humanitarian projects. EarthTek helps by sourcing pre-screening, gathering details and preparing a presentation packages on projects that private funders review for possible funding.
In January 2022, a trusted contact (in new technology finance) presented an idea. Would EarthTek be able to draw on its contacts and knowledge of new technology projects around the world and be able to help match projects with different humanitarian funders ? He explained that there are private companies actively seeking to identify worthy humanitarian projects that they can support with SIGNIFICANT charitable budgets. But their core business is finance and he believes that they need help to source and pre-screen projects.
EarthTek could see how our team's network of relationships and trusted contacts could definitely be helpful. In fact, we were able to immediately list several potential projects. While it was a very different role, we could see how it would be a win for all involved if the idea ever came to be.
Three months later, a call came through advising that the idea had been well received and a private fund wanted to try looking at the model for an up-coming humanitarian budget. Fast forward a year, approximately 10 private companies have expressed interest in having our team help them source humanitarian projects.
When the companies are ready, each company funder will share a description of project criteria and location preferences and what they require for a submission package for each project. The EarthTek team will seek to match preferred types or regions for projects, source suitable project candidates and gather the information from each project. Our team prepares a package in line with their requirements and presents the project packages to the funders. The review and final decision is entirely in the hands of the funder.
The funding sources are private companies that all work at a high-level in financial trading. The trading platforms on which they conduct their business generate substantial profits and the operators of these platforms require that the users dedicate a % of their earnings to "humanitarian" projects.
At different points of the year, these trading companies' funds come out of trade and soon thereafter they are faced with the challenge of where to find suitable/credible projects to allocate this money and fulfill their obligation to give it away. The fact that their budgets amount to millions of dollars make this a significant task.
EarthTek is part of a team that identifies and pre-screens projects with these funders in mind. Each funder will provide a set of criteria for the types / locations of projects they would prefer to support with their budget and how the proposal for a project is to be presented. Our team matches the funders requests with an active inventory of potential projects and prepare a package in line with the funder's requirements. If there are no matches, the EarthTek team may actively search for a project to match the funders request. The funder will in turn review the package and possibly come back with questions. The final decision is entirely at the discretion of the individual private funder.
The timeline for the process depends entirely on each of the private company funders. It is noteworthy that the charitable giving to "humanitarian" projects is NOT their core business and as such may not be done as expediently as their day to day business priorities.
They will set the time when requests are made for project submissions and how long it takes them to review and decide on which projects are awarded funding.
EarthTek has worked to build up an inventory of active projects of various description so it can have projects on hand and ready when funders put out a call to receive submissions.
EarthTek is paid for project submission and services in the form of an administration fee at the time an accepted project has a signed contract and is funded.
So neither the funder or the project pay any up-front fees for EarthTek's services. The administration fees are subtracted from the total amount requested for the project funding.
